The Giant Talon 4 2025 – Black is an aluminium hardtail mountain bike designed for recreational trail riding, fitness and everyday cycling. Its redesigned ALUXX frame combines a suspension fork, simple microSHIFT Acolyte 1×8 drivetrain, clutch-equipped rear derailleur and mechanical disc brakes in an approachable package for riders beginning their mountain bike journey.
The redesigned ALUXX-Grade aluminium frame uses updated tube shaping to reduce weight while maintaining the durability required for off-road riding. Internal routing creates a clean appearance and accommodates the gear, brake and optional dropper-post cables. An integrated chainstay protector helps reduce noise and protects the frame from chain slap on rough terrain.
Modern geometry gives the Talon 4 stable and predictable handling on recreational trails while remaining comfortable for bike paths and everyday riding. A 67-degree or 67.5-degree head angle, depending on frame and wheel size, creates a confident position for descending and cornering without making the bike difficult to control for newer riders.
The Talon 4 is available with different wheel sizes to suit rider height and preference. Extra Small and Small frames are offered with agile 27.5-inch wheels, while Small through Extra Large sizes are available with faster-rolling 29-inch wheels. The smaller wheels provide easier manoeuvrability, while the 29-inch option improves stability and rollover performance on uneven terrain.
An SR Suntour XCE 28 coil-sprung fork helps absorb bumps and vibrations from gravel paths and entry-level trails. The 27.5-inch Extra Small and Small models provide 80mm of travel, while the 29-inch models receive 100mm of travel. This size-specific approach helps maintain suitable handling and proportions across the range.
The microSHIFT Acolyte drivetrain uses a single front chainring and eight rear gears for straightforward operation without a front derailleur. Its wide-range 12-46T cassette provides useful climbing capability, while the clutch-equipped Acolyte rear derailleur improves chain control when riding across rough surfaces. A 32-tooth Prowheel crankset provides practical gearing for recreational trails and general riding.
TKB-172 mechanical disc brakes use 160mm front and rear rotors to provide dependable stopping performance in varied riding conditions. Unlike hydraulic brakes, mechanical disc brakes are operated by conventional cables, making them relatively straightforward to adjust and maintain. They provide a useful step up from rim brakes for riders using the bike on dirt paths, gravel and recreational trails.
The 30.9mm seat tube and internal cable routing allow a compatible dropper seatpost to be installed as the rider progresses. Integrated frame mounts can also accommodate racks, fenders and a KSA18 direct-mount kickstand, allowing the Talon to be adapted for commuting, recreational riding or everyday transport. The frame provides clearance for tyres up to 2.4 inches wide.
The Giant Talon 4 is best suited to new and recreational mountain bikers who want a versatile bike for paths, gravel roads, light trails and everyday riding. Its simple 1x drivetrain and broad size range make it an approachable first mountain bike. Riders planning regular technical trail riding or seeking stronger braking and more adjustable suspension may benefit from a higher Talon model equipped with hydraulic disc brakes and an upgraded fork.
